Over the course of my work with the Elderhostel Institute Network, I have “met,” usually through email, many interesting folks, and I’ve let them all know about my new book. One of them, Joan Fitting Scott, got back to me, offered congratulations, and we began an email correspondence about writing and marketing our own books. She has just written “Skinning the Cat: A Baby Boomer’s Guide to the New Retiree Lifestyles.” The bottom line in our discussions is that we have “partnered” up and agreed to promote each other’s book along with our own. We will mention both books in interviews, etc. So I’m letting my blog readers known about Joan’s book too. It’s informative, interesting and a must read if you’re thinking about or planning for retirement. Here’s what the book description has to say - When Dad retired, he played golf. Times have changed. Today's retirees have a different plan. They see retirement as a time to reinvent themselves; after all, they marched in the streets, explored sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. They'll choose adventure over safety, trade green eyeshades for whisks, calculators for palettes. And they’ll live longer than did Dad. They'll have time to explore life's options. If they continue work—most will—they'll have money to fund the exploration. What will they choose to do? “Skinning the Cat” looks at how we’ll spend our time in retirement, whether it’s continuing full-time work, starting a business, working part time, volunteering or traveling. Here’s what one reviewer has to say - Chock full of useful information for retirees, Scott's little book brims with tips and suggestions on every page. She navigates retirees through options they may never have previously considered. Ms. Scott has thoroughly researched her subject and with clarity cites in detail web sites, books, organizations and phone numbers, enabling the reader to plan a rich and rewarding retirement. Another reviewer says - If you are approaching retirement, even if it is a few years away, you will find "Skinning the Cat" to be full of stories, examples, ideas, and resources to jump-start your thinking about your own retirement options. This book explores the many options that will keep us Boomers engaged and active, holding off the aging process. Joan Fitting Scott examines retirement from every angle, providing a comprehensive approach to deciding what is right for you for the second chapter of your life.
