Betty Tamed

In the end, Betty’s heightened sexuality would be her doom.  Production Code Censorship began in 1934, forcing her to wear a longer skirt and less revealing necklines.  Betty was no longer a flapper, she was now a husbandless housewife with a dog named Pudge.  They tried to keep her alive at this time by parting her off with popular Comic Strip character, but none really took off, except for Popeye The Sailor Man, which came to stardom on it’s own right.  Betty’s comic strip by Max Fleischer was syndicate from 1934 through 1937.  From 1984 to 1987 another strip (Betty Boop & Friends was produced by Brian Walker, Ned Walker, Greg Walker and Morgan Walker.  Sounds to me a family affair…

Betty Today

She was put back into syndication on TV in 1958 by again other people.  She also gained exposure again in 1960 with the counterculture movement.  The rights were purchased to her shorts to colorize and re-air them as The Betty Boop Show.  The colorization wasn’t done so to make her with the full animation as with Max, they only used limited animation.  This did very little to help her get a good start again.  Ivy Films tried and put together a movie of some of Betty’s better shorts call, The Betty Boop Scandal of 1974, which got limited reviews. In 1980 NTA tried again with Hurray for Betty Boop using her original sexier form, which was a big hit.  She was back as the flapper Betty again.  From this it got popularity in the UK.  In 1988 she was back again in the title, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. They had filmed her nude for this film, but it was never used.  As of 2006 Lion Gate House Entertainment owns her and the television distribution is still CBS Paramount TV.

She has many things to purchase, about her, available to this day. Many many people love her then and still love her today.   I am one!!!!    Betty Boop is awesome!!!
