another "quickie" trip home!

My Picture
Would you believe that I returned from a visit to Lockport and did not have even one picture on my camera's memory card?  NOT ONE!!!  Well, if you believe that, you're right!  I don't remember the last time that happened--well, maybe that's because I don't think it ever did.

Leaving the Cottage around 9am yesterday, Sid and I had breakfast at DQ in New Roads, as has become our custom before just about every trip I make back home.  Sometimes we choose DQ; sometimes we choose Shoney's; it just depends on how much Sid has to do here at the Cottage and how much time we want him to spend driving back/forth from our breakfast destination.  This time, he had a good bit to do, so we made his drive-back distance shorter by going to DQ.  It was pretty good, as usual, and the price certainly can't be beat.  Ambience???  Nah, but the people there are really nice, so that makes up for the lack.

On getting into Lafourche Parish, I stopped at Steve/Ann's house to drop off some freshly cut okra for them to cook.  Steve and Ann were in New Orleans celebrating her birthday, and Ann's Mom, Linda, was there with the kids.  That means that I had a chance to visit with the kids for a little while, which is something I really enjoy doing.  Hope they have enough okra to make a large enough dish--and I think they do.

When I left their house, I went directly to Jess' to unload my few things (that's the best part of not being in town too long--my packing is minimal, and I like that).  Jess had called and said that Channie was "driving me up the walls" because "Gramma hasn't gotten here yet" at her house, so I got there as quickly as I could.  LOL  Channie was involved with a show on tv, but to reacted very favorably when she realized I was in the house.  Naturally, I had a great time "playing" with her andwith seeing the other kids as well.

After a while, I went into Lockport to visit with Mom.  She was in good spirits and very talkative as usual.  She told me that NanNan was in the hospital (more on that in a minute) and that a cousin of mine had also been admitted to the hospital (more on that in a minute, too).  Mom really looked pretty good, but her vision and hearing are so bad; it makes it really hard to have a good visit, both for her and for us--we have to scream and she still can't always hear.

I did not get to see Paul yesterday, but I did see Rick for a little while.  Although he is still suffering from various problems, he, too, was in good spirits.  I picked up a box of diapers for Dad while I was there, helping Lisa to "label" them for the Manor.  I dropped them off this morning when I visited with Dad on my way home.

NanNan is really not doing very well.  Her condition is something she's had for a while, and the doctors seem to think they have done just about all they can, so they're trying to keep her comfortable and without pain.  Please keep her and Di in your prayers, along with the rest of the family, of course.

My cousin apparently passed out while driving the other day and was found in a ditch in his car.  No alcohol or drugs were involved, so the situation is rather serious--finding out WHY he fainted.  I did not get any news today, but I'm sure Mom will fill me in as soon as she knows anything.  Please keep him in your prayers as well.

My next stop was at Bec's house, visiting mostly with her.  Her kids were upstairs, anathema to me b/c of my knees, so I didn't get to see them; however, I did speak with Lane a while and Randi came back here with me for the week.  Bec will either come here or meet me half-way on Saturday afternoon or Sunday to pick Randi up, so this is a rather brief visit for Randi.  On our way back here this morning, we stopped at the Sizzlin' Restaurant for lunch--pretty good meal there.

Making really good time and not having any weather problems to amount to much, we got back here at about 1:50pm, having left Thibodaux after lunch around noon.  That is excellent time, for those of you who don't know where these places are!

Sid was delayed at school because of a faculty meeting, but when he returned, he took Randi for a ride on the 4-wheeler, much to her pleasure.  Almost as soon as they got back, we had supper, which I had prepared while they rode.  We had a potpourri of choices today:  chicken/sausage gumbo from Jess (Sid and I ate some of that, which was very good--and I don't like chicken/sausage gumbo, usually), salad (for me), left-over fried shrimp and French fries for Randi from lunch earlier today.  Sid and I also ate some of our left-over "oven potatoes" from Friday--still good, too.  We were all satisfied, believe me.

So now, you're up-to-date.  I do want to wish my niece, Melanie, Paul's daughter, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY.  Hope her day was really special for her.

Tomorrow, Randi and I will head to our car dealership to get my tires checked (we think we may have a small leak, something that began AFTER we had our tires rotated at the 5,000 mile check-up).  Hope that's nothing too big!  Beyond that, we have nothing special planned for our week, but I'm sure we'll do something at some point over the next few days.

Hope you had a great day and that your evening is restful and quiet.  Have a super week!
