It was a busy Saturday afternoon and we were on our way to get groceries. Paul was being unusually grumpy and I was just letting his attitude slide by. As soon as we got on the main road a state trooper went past us in the other lane. He was headed in the opposite direction. As soon as Paul saw him he grabbed his seat belt and tried to fasten it with one hand. Sure enough the State Trooper made a U turn and was right behind us. The blue lights came on. Paul managed to get the seat belt fastened just in time and he told me to tell the trooper it was fastened all the time. I got the regristration and insurance card out of the glove compartment and handed them to Paul as the trooper walked up to the window. “Well Paul, I see you didn't have your seat belt fastened as you went by”, the trooper said. “Oh yes officer, it was fastened as soon as I got in the truck, just ask my wife.” The officer leaned forward and said, “Well Ginny, was it fastened or wasn't it?” I took a deep breathe and said, “Officer, I have been married to Paul for twenty-five years and one of the things I've learned is never, ever argue with him when he's been drinking.” |
