When my little girl was growing up we called her Desda Moaner or sometimes, Moaner Lisa as she burst into tears everytime something went wrong. One time, when she was about 4, I gave her a swat on the behind for doing something wrong and she retreated to her room for two days. Finally, she came back down with a little note that said, “I LuV U Dad.” That’s the last time I ever spanked her. Who could stand the crying? In contrast, I had just raised two older brothers who could be disciplined one minute and out in the backyard playing football with me the next. They knew it was nothing personal and they deserved it.
But the difference is, my daughter grew up. She has had her share of adversity in her 33 years and has handled it all with maturity. When I see the ridiculous saga of Paris Hilton I am reminded of an immature child who’s only defense mechanism is crying. Grow up and take it like a woman, Paris baby. There’s no crying in jail!
