Hillary Clinton is reaching out to her supporters for some suggestions on a campaign song. I can’t imagine that she needs to go through a list and make a selection when there is only one choice that makes any sense to me. In fact, it is the song that was voted the number one C&W song of all time as sung by the legendary Tammy Wynette, “Stand By Your Man.” At least we know with Hillary we will get absolute and unquestioning loyalty regardless of how badly people behave around her.
Now to be an equal opportunity spoof maker, I have some suggestions for other candidates who may be seeking a campaign song:
John Edwards: “A Boy Named Sue”*
Barack Obama:“Ebony and Ivory”
Rudy Jiuliani: “Changing Partners” or “The Second (Third?) Time Around”
John McCain: “I May Be Old But I Ain’t Dead Yet”
Mitt Romney: “I’m So Vain” (variation on Carly Simons’ “Your So Vain.”)
Bill Richardson: "Macho, Macho Man"
Fred Thompson:“I Fought the Law (& Order) and the Law Won”
*For anyone who doesn’t get the pun, this is a reference to his history as a litigation lawyer against large companies. I don’t want to get into the trouble Ann Coulter did when she referred to him with the famous “f” word.
Hey, join in and make your own suggestions. It’s been a long time since “I’m Wild About Harry” won the day. A good Campaign Song may make the difference this time around.
