What's the old saying--"If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all."? That's what's been going on around here lately. Here's the latest--
After dinner, Sid and I went outside to work on marking our property line. IT WAS HOT out there, so I didn't stay very long. When I walked into the house, I thought it was a little warmer than usual, but I also figured it was because I was so hot. I just sat in my chair and put on the tv to relax and cool off a little. Hmmmmm--didn't happen!
After a while, I noticed that I was sweating a little around my hairline (very common for me when I'm hot), so I checked the thermostat--it was 85 degrees in the tv room. 85 degrees!!!! I checked to make sure the a/c was really on; it was; I called Sid to come in and check the unit.
First, he did what I had already done--he checked to make sure it was on. Still was! He then listened to see if the unit was running--it wasn't. He decided to change the filter--it was hardly dirty. He listened again to the unit, and the fan was running. A quick phone call was made to our repairman, who kindly gave several suggestions to check the problem, but none of these fit our situation. He suggested Sid get in the attic to check the pan for water, told to remove the water, and the unit should work--NO WATER in the pan, so that wasn't the solution.
Sid called the man again and he gave other suggestions that might be the cause of the problem. Still no solution, so he said he'd stop by. He had told Sid to remove a panel from the unit to see if could hear some humming--Sid removed the panel and finally heard the humming. When the man came over, I thought he'd have a stroke because Sid removed more screws than the guy thought he should have; however, Sid did what he was told, so we didn't let that bother us. (The man refused to put back the screws, though, so that was a mess.)
As it turned out, there was a bug at the contact point which caused a short of some kind. Bug removed; a/c working just fine. What a strange day that was!
Sick folks up-date: My nephew should be in the Mental Health Unit by now. It was supposed to happen yesterday, but because of some minor problem in his throat (probably caused by the intubation process), that move was delayed. The doctors are still amazed at the progress he has made physically.
NanNan is doing better, too, according to Di. I think they'll be doing a couple of other tests soon to determine the cause of her problems, and then, I assume she'll head back to the Manor.
Speaking of the Manor, I received a call yesterday from Dad's nurse. It seems my 87-year-old Dad got in a fight with a lady--his second such happening since he's at the home. Apparently, he couldn't move his wheelchair where he wanted to go, and the lady started moving the chair without Dad's permission. He got angry and kicked at her, causing a small skin tear. The nurse assured me that everything was OK, that the lady understood what happened, and that Dad didn't mean to hurt anyone. My goodness--aren't the children supposed to be the ones getting in fights? LOL
I mentioned earlier that Sid and I were working on marking our property line today. He managed to get it done almost to where our property enters the woods, so that's a big improvement in the situation. This way, we can mow farther back and keep our property in good condition, with the grass kept short until we reach the wooded areas.
Tomorrow is the birthday of my nephew, Ben, son of Sandie and Todd. Ben will be 17 and is finishing up his last year of home schooling. Hope your day is really special, Ben, and that all your wishes for that day come true. HAPPY BIRTHDAY--and many, many more for you is my wish!
That's it for tonight! Have a great evening!
