Having spent the last 2 1/2 days waaayyyy "under the weather" and having finally come up from that hole today, I've got some catching up to do. So, get your reading glasses and prepare to find out every little detail of our lives. Yeah, right!
Actually, I started feeling bad on Friday night, not too good since we were expecting two of our sons to arrive on Saturday morning. Oops--they called and said they were arriving on Friday night instead, so they could get an early start in the morning. Thank goodness I had already prepared a roast in the crock pot, knowing that no matter how I felt, there would be dinner at noon on Saturday.
Steve and Mike arrived around 9:30pm on Friday, and they were "up and at it" early on Saturday morning. They drove about 2 1/2 hours to get here and had an auger and a tiller in the truck. Unfortunately, the auger didn't work, so they had to manually dig every hole they needed--a total of 40 holes for 40 trees. They were through digging around noon, came in to grab a bite to eat (the roast with veggies and rice) and a little rest, headed back to the orchard, put the trees in the holes, and that was that. They were able to head back to their homes by around 3:00 or so (not sure about the time 'cuz I wasn't paying too much attention to anything by that time).
Sid and I thank Steve and Mike so much for coming here to help us. I know their Dad appreciated their efforts. We still do a lot for our age, but that would have been backbreaking. Thanks, Guys. We love you very much--always and in all ways.
Today, Sid did more chopping of the garden area. He is making a garden that is about 100 feet long and 35 feet wide, so that kept him busy for most of the day. After doing more chopping, he took the tiller that Mike loaned us and began that task--Whew! That's some kind of job! He finished tilling the entire area and wanted to do more, but I sort of "convinced" him that that was enough for one day. It didn't take much convincing, though, so he came in for supper.
Because I still wasn't feeling 100% and had developed a slight intestinal discomfort, I decided that a homemade veggie soup would be the best thing. Fortunately, I had some meat in the freezer, and it didn't take long to defrost. With that meat, some potatoes, onions, carrots, green beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce, we had a pretty good pot of soup. Of course, we sent some to Mis' Dot, who loves to eat veggie soup.
With regard the garden, Sid has already purchased the seeds or whatever he needs to plant. He also got some potatoes, which we cut up to plant. He wants to do that very soon, but the other veggies will be done later. As of today, he's planning on planting the potatoes, of course, tomatoes, green beans (snap beans), cucumbers, sweet corn, okra, bell peppers, and possible cantaloupes. Who knows? We will be very busy during the summer, I can assure you.
Josh called us from Denver last night. He and his family are now in an apartment. His wife, Leah, works in hotel management and just got a new job in Denver, so they were being "put up" at that hotel until they could find an apartment. They found one and are now in that two-bedroom apartment until the home they're planning to build is complete. The kids will be starting a new school on Monday, and we wish them all the good luck and good friends they can possibly have.
Joey also called from Denver today. He was calling to check up on me, having read (not read) my journal entries for the past couple of nights. (I don't think Josh's computer is set up yet, so he doesn't know what's going here right now.). Joey's new job is going very well, and he is finally doing some actual "hands on" work over the past week. Up until then, it was still a training period.
He and Beau went to a place that has several "hot springs"--can't remember the name of the place--and had a really nice time. Joey said there were several springs of varying degrees of heat, with one being too hot for him to get into. They did manage to get into at least one, though, so that's good.
Josh, Leah, Cam, Brynn, Joey, and Beau have also gotten together for at least one meal, and that makes me feel really good. I'm glad our boys are back together, being able to do things together and share their family lives.
Bec and Jess also called over the weekend, each one telling us what's been going on there. Of course, it was Jessie's birthday yesterday (as I mentioned on my site), and I think she had a good day. Bec was enjoying the beautiful weather and was planning on enjoying it even more as the day progressed. I think they're all making some kind of special plans for the weekend, but I'm sworn to secrecy, so--- Now that I've gotten everyone's attention, let's go on.
The young men that mowed the lawn for Mis' Dot on Friday did an excellent job. They used the weed eater, mowed both our front and back yards, and cleaned up everything. Mis' Dot's trailer is on our property, and her nieces and nephews gave her the "lawn mowing job" as a birthday present. She will be 88 years old this month--and still going strong.
Now that's you're up-to-date, I'll just wish you a great week.
