I grew up in the countryside near Macon, Georgia, and lived there until 1959 when my father was transferred to Cincinnati, Ohio.
I attended elementary school in Macon (Alexander IV Elementary School) from 1949 to 1956 but for most of my high school years, I attended a private boarding school (Patterson School near Lenoir, North Carolina) where I received my high school diploma in 1960.
From 1960-1962 I attended the University of Cincinnati.
1962-63 I attended the University of Munich in Germany, got married in 1963 and returned to Cincinnati, Ohio and worked as a caseworker for the Hamilton County Welfare Department until 1966.
1966-1968 I returned to the University of Munich where I completed my Pro- and Hauptseminar certification.
1969-1975 I worked for Dun & Bradstreet in the U.S. and Canada. My wife and I divorced in 1971.
1976 - 1980 University of Georgia - I entered the University of Georgia in 1976 where I completed a formal undergraduate degree (BA) with double majors in sociology and philosophy.
1980 – 1982 I received my MA degree in historical sociology at the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton, N.B.) in Canada.
1982 - 1984 Doctoral work at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss. (but I didn't finish my dissertation until 1991 which is when I received my Ph.D.)
1984 - 2002 I was a teacher at John Hancock Academy in Sparta, Ga.
2002 - 2003 as a TEFL teacher at BinCai English College in Harbin, China.
2003 - present at Henan University of Science and Technology in Luoyang (Henan Province), China teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) including courses in American and British literature.
