Vacation? What vacation?

Yesterday was a rather quiet day--we just worked around the Cottage a little and relaxed on the day that is intended to be a day free of work. I know this rarely happens any more but yesterday was truly relaxing.

We did have one thing we did that we would have preferred not to do and that was to attend a wake. The wife of a friend died after a very long battle with cancer. To make matters worse our friend was diagnosed with cancer himself a few months ago. Mike was one of the first people I met here in New Roads. We were working on adding to our little home and he worked at Fontaine's the local lumber yard. After only one visit Mike remembered my name at my next visit. Considering all the people who shop there I was amazed--and it really made me feel welcome in this town. Mike is very special to us and we know that he is a man of strong faith. Our prayers go out to him and his two children and grandchildren. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as well.

Since it was time for our regular check-up on our RAV we made an appointment to bring the car into the shop today. Our appointment was for 8:15am and I really had to think long and hard before deciding to go with Sid to Baton Rouge. I HATE getting up early and since I am retired I try not to get up too early unless there is something to do like take the car in. Anyway I ended up going with Sid to Baton Rouge and it wasn't too bad.

They estimated the time for the check-up would be about one hour and forty-five minutes but it turned out to be considerably less which made us very happy of course. We sat in their little cafe drank coffee (yes even I drank coffee) and watched tv while waiting for our car. When it was ready we hit the road again stopping at Cracker Barrel for breakfast.

I think I've lost my taste for Cracker Barrel food. I really enjoy going there because of the atmosphere the good service and the fun of walking around their "store" either before or after eating. Today I decided to return to my favorite meal of FRIED eggs with the other foods that go with it. I LOVE fried eggs but I HATE it when the white of the egg is runny. A runny yolk--yes indeed; a runny white--yuck! Well I should have known better--the eggs were definitely runny in the wrong places. I rarely return food but I decided that I just couldn't eat that so we called our waitress over. She was great!

When Gabrielle saw the eggs (I had broken the white part to check it) she immediately knew what the problem was and took them back. When they were returned ONE eggs was OK; the other was still yucky. This time though I told her not to worry about the "bad" egg; I was ready to eat my breakfast. I had enough food there so not eating that egg wasn't a problem.

After leaving CB we headed to SAM's. I had already checked with the girls and knew what they wanted. We also had a couple of items to get ourselves so while we were in the neighborhood we decided to do that shopping. Unfortunately we were only able to complete half of Jan's order so we'll have to try that again another day.

Since we got home Sid's been working on the tractor with the box grader attachment. He has made several piles of brush more compact and leveled off more areas along the boundary. He is now watering the trees in the back orchard--this lack of rain is really hurting our trees AND our garden. Hopefully we'll get enough rain to help but not so much as to be as bad as usual. You know Louisiana--either drought or floods!

I would like to wish my cousin Di a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Di is as close to a sister as anyone could be and she has always been an important part of our family. Her Mom was my Nanny and Di and her parents lived with my sister another cousin and me when we were little. I have fond memories of those times and I want to make sure she knows how I feel about her. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DI! Hope your day was super special!

Well not much else going on here so I'll sign off for tonight. Have a great evening and a wonderful week. Tomorrow is our eldest child's birthday and we want to wish her a wonderful day. She changed our lives so much those years ago when she was born and we are grateful to God for her being in our lives--as are all our children. Hope your day is really special Bec! May you have all things good and may the coming year be a blessed one for you. We love you very much!

QUOTE: "Happiness is not a when or a where; it can be a here and a now. But until you are happy with who you are you will never be happy because of what you have."
---Zig Ziglar

NOTE: If you stop and think about this quote you recognize how true it is. No matter where we are we can be happy--IF we are happy within ourselves. Although money helps it is not the reason for our happiness. Look around you and see who in your life is truly happy--not those with lots of money or fame but rather those who are comfortable in their own skin. We must always continue to grow but whatever we are in we must be happy there. If we are happiness will be our state in life. I'm happy--are you?
