This has been a sad week for the entertainment world with three famous folks passing on into eternity: Ed McMahon Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. These people have brought joy into the lives of many fans and I wish them peace in their eternal home. The heat is getting worse but staying inside solves the problem of dealing with it. Of course our a/c can barely keep up with the rising temps but we "make do" every day. I have finally convinced Sid that working outside in the hottest part of the day is NOT a good thing to do so he goes out after there has been some decline in the temperature. He did more cutting of branches today and finished spraying the weed killer around the rest of the pecan trees. Last night and tonight we boiled some corn from our garden and when I tell you that this corn was fantastic you'd better believe it. WOW! We planted sweet corn and it was really good. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of it but we had enough for each of us to eat our fill on both nights so we won't complain. I hope we have more though 'cuz it really is good. Today also found me dealing with green peppers--I managed to dice enough for two full quarts as well as slicing enough for two full gallons. These are in the freezer right now and will be put to good use as needed. A lot of the peppers had so-called "bad spots" on them but I was able to cut those out and still had plenty enough to freeze. A couple of days ago I asked Sid to pick up a roast the next time he went to the store so he did--TWO of them actually. Last night I prepared them for cooking in the crock pot and today they were done. We had roast beef sandwiches for lunch and roast gravy/rice with our corn for supper. I wish I had known about the crock pot when we were raising our kids--such an easy way to cook a delicious roast--so tender and juicy and full of gravy. Now I used to cook a great roast/gravy combination in those days but it took a lot of time and effort. This way I get the same results with very little effort and I can go for that. Of course we also didn't have the microwave until either Jan or Joey was born so lots of things have changed over the years. With regard to my Aunt Hazel--I received a call from one of her children today giving us new information. The doctors are not at all confident about her making it through today but like I told my cousin one can never tell how long a person can go on in this life. Aunt Hazel has been sick for many years but it appears that this will be her last health problem. Please continue to pray for her and her family! Today there was a knock on our front door and before I could get to the door the person started knocking very hard on the door. (I found out later that this man was very hard of hearing and probably didn't hear me respond.) Anyway he was a former teacher that Sid knows and he stopped by to see if we would like some fresh onions from his garden. How nice is that? Last year he dropped off some veggies when we weren't home--just because! Again how nice was that? We told him that we surely would appreciate those onions so he will be dropping off tomorrow. Not too much is going on as you can probably tell so I won't trouble you with lots of minutia to read. Just know that things are going well here and that we are actually having a very short break from doctors' appointments with Mom. Sid will be going to Lockport on Monday for a couple of appointments for himself--eye doctor and dentist--and he will be bringing Randi back for a visit. Other than that our next appointment for Mom isn't until mid-July AFTER Randi and I return from our little trip to Alabama for a ba Have a great evening and a fantastic Friday. (NOTE: I took the pages that the young lady at AT&T printed for me punched holes in them and made myself a manual that I can carry around safely. MUCH BETTER!)--Sandie I DID contact AT&T and SAMSUNG and neither could/would provide a hard copy. I did find it on-line but I didn't want to print over 200 pages so.... QUOTE: "Some people think they have burning ambition when it is merely inflammation of the wishbone." --Cross Roads The Book NOTE: Dreams are good but without work what's the use? Sound familiar? Yep! It's one of my favorite quotes one which I've put up in several places. Ambition is NOT just the desire to do something or be someone; we MUST act in order to achieve whatever it is we aspire to-- |
