My goodness! I can't believe it's been so long since I put in an entry. If not for my sister asking me about that I would have been under the impression that I wrote right before going to Lockport which is what I usually do. Guess I got busy and forgot to write so I'll do that right now. I won't even try to fill in what happened on some of those days 'cuz I honestly don't remember but I will tell you what I do remember. Here goes--- First of all Jan and Troy left for their cruise on Saturday the day BEFORE Mother's Day and they will be returning this Saturday. We've had some contact with them at the start of the cruise and they seemed to be having a really good time. They sent a couple of pictures of the boat (ship) they were sailing on and it is HUGE! They were to spend some time in Key West and were heading toward the Bahamas when last we spoke. Their friends were married in Key West I think and the rest of the time was spent in traveling. I know they had fun with all their friends but I also know that they will be glad to get back home. Can't wait to hear from them and to see all the pictures they took. On Wednesday I went to Lockport. I think that's how I forgot to put in an entry. As you know I can "talk" via my journal entries and e-mails and I think that a lot of our goings-on were told to family and friends before leaving and I just thought that I had written in my journal. Strange!!! Anyway I had pretty much decided to go to Lockport on Thursday but my sister Sandie was going there on Wednesday and we decided that it would be nice to get together that day. So I changed my plans a little and went there on the same day as Sandie. Since we were going to get together we decided to ask our brothers to join us for lunch. Rick was able to do that but Paul unfortunately had some commitment at work and couldn't leave. We had lunch at a local restaurant called VIC's the owner being someone who was in school at the same time as I was but he's a little younger. They were so sweet to all of us when we went for lunch. One of the workers is the daughter of a cousin of ours but Sandie didn't know her so she got to meet Missy there. It's always nice to meet new family members and Missy is just a little doll ALWAYS asking about my Mom her Aunt Lou. The food at Vic's is very good; the prices are on a par with other restaurants in the area; the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming--not like Waffle House and not like DON's--but we really enjoyed the meal. After we were done we stayed and visited for a while longer--the lunch crowd was gone and the table wasn't needed so we didn't interfere with their business. It was so nice to be with my siblings even though it was for a short time. ALL of us were able to visit with Mom at the same time too which is a rarity. I think Mom really enjoyed that as much as she could with her hearing and vision losses. While in Lockport I was able to visit with Bec a little and of course I did some babysitting for Jess which is why I had planned the trip in the first place. As it turned out I didn't have as much to do as originally planned. The reason for the babysitting was a doctor's appointment that Jess had (not sick; just the normal check-ups) and they called for her to go in earlier than scheduled. So I was able to leave earlier to try to avoid the bad weather that was brewing. And I pretty much did--- On Wednesday Rett was in the school's band concert at church so we attended that. Even as a teacher (or maybe because I am a teacher) I am always amazed at how much improvement there is from the beginning of the year to the end of the term. These kids knew nothing about playing a recorder when they started and now they really can play some music. Of course the older kids did extremely well too and I always did enjoy going to the school's band concerts. After the concert we had supper at Blackie's in Lockport. Again if you're looking for atmosphere this is not the place to go; but the food is good and the prices are excellent. Also just about everybody there is someone you know and it was no different that night. I was able to see a number of friends and relatives that I hadn't seen in a while so that added to my enjoyment. I had checked with the eye doctor's office to see about some fr Randi came back with me yesterday and she'll be here until we go on our little excursion--an over-nighter--at Oak Alley Plantation on Wednesday. This was a gift from Josh/Leah/kids and we really look forward to going there. I'm sure Randi Sid and I will do something together before she returns home. Today Joey and Beau are leaving for their trip to Amsterdam Brussels and other places near-by. I know they will have a terrific time and they have been so looking forward to this. Prayers for a safe trip there and back please. Sid begins his last week of school for this year on Monday. I know he looks forward to that but the last couple of weeks have been very hectic--trying to get all the reviewing in preparing last tests making study guides preparing the final exams and doing all the end-of-the-year stuff. He'll really be able to enjoy that trip to Oak Alley I'm sure. The garden is starting to take shape with little cherry tomatoes and a few other veggies making their appearances. The corn looks great as does the okra and I can't wait to start fooling with that stuff. It's lots of work but well worth the time and effort. Well I don't know if I hit everything we did since I last wrote but you're pretty much caught up with our goings on so... Have a great weekend and I'll try to be more alert to my journal entries. Please remember to keep Beau's Uncle in your prayers; also little Bradan is really not doing well and he and his family need your continued prayers as well. I also have another special intention but I cannot mention names at this point so since we know that God knows all just a prayer of concern would be appreciated--HE'll do the rest! QUOTE: "Marriages may be made in Heaven but a lot of the details have to be worked out here on Earth." --Gloria Pitzer NOTE: How true! Although one should never enter into a marriage without the intention that it be "forever" I think there are a lot of people especially youngsters today who enter into that contract believing that "if things don't work out I can just leave" as their mantra. That will never work! One has to be ready to "iron out those details" that come up and they need to be willing to work with their spouse to do that. To make a marriage work you must be willing to work--and work hard. Some of us have been blessed with a spouse who makes that easy but even then it does involve work. So be willing to work together on those details and togetherness becomes a real blessing. I know--'cuz I'm there! |
