Boy! Did we have some weather this weekend! Thankfully we didn't actually get what they predicted--golf-sized hail and strong thunder storms--but we had rain rain and more rain. Then when the rain was just about done the electricity went off--and it stayed off for at least 1 1/2 hours. I was NOT a happy camper--for several reasons. First of all I had been waiting for one of my favorite shows to come on--COLD CASE FILES--because I knew it was a two-parter and the first part of the finale. We had watched just about half of it when the power went off. So now I'll have to be sure to watch the second half with its "previously" part and hope I get enough info to make sense of the whole thing. Secondly the heat--it didn't take long for the temperature to start rising (of course it had already risen in me) because we haven't been putting the a/c very low. After a little while I couldn't stand it anymore and Sid and I went out on the porch and sat on our swing for a while. There it was actually a little cool but we were fine. Jess called while we were outside and we made final plans for our little trip to Alabama in July when we will attend a ba Over the weekend I received the notice about renewing my driver's license not due until July; however I'm a little bit OCD about stuff like that so as soon as I got the notice I decided to try to renew it here in New Roads--and I did that today. The office here is so clean compared to many such offices I've been to in the past. And I've been there twice before and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes. It was quick and easy--the perfect way to get a license renewed. This afternoon weather permitting we'll probably mow the front/back yards again. With the rain the grass just grows so quickly and it looks so nice when it's freshly mowed. I hope there aren't puddle areas around but things look pretty good right now. The sky is very cloudy though and I hope it holds until we can get the yard mowed. The young couple that we rent property to for their trailer will be moving soon. They were supposed to be here only a year or two but it's been considerably more than that. They were looking for property to build their own home and they found it at the beginning of the year. Their new home should be ready within a couple of months so they'll be gone. They were excellent tenants but we preferred having the property clear so that's what we'll have shortly. We wish them the best in their new home! Joey sent me a pic of himself with a couple of friends at a special "art class" that he attended. They have so many unique opportunities for young people in Denver (and older folks too I think)--this was a place where people gathered were assigned a canvas given paints and an apron had a glass of wine and painted a picture by following the directions of the teacher. Joey the rebel (self-described) decided to paint SEVEN trees instead of FIVE and the results were very good. In addition to ending up with a nice painting he and his friends had a good time--and when you get down to it being with friends and having fun--what more could you ask! As you know this Sunday is Mother's Day and I want to wish all the Moms out there a wonderful day. My Mom is still with us thankfully and will be 90 years old in December. She has her health problems of course but she is still alert and very "with it" when we visit. The mothers of our grandchildren are really special too each of them giving their all to their children which is all we can ask. We love each of them so very much and hope their day is extra-special. Of course there are women who have their own children and there are women who tend to the children of others. There are teachers doctors nurses babysitters day-care workers and so many others who treat their charges as if they were their own. There are special aunts and nannies who love their little nieces and nephews and God-children as if they were their own. To all of these I also wish a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Without these wonderful women our children would be deprived of a special kind of love--and so we thank them. That's it for this entry. Hope you have a wonderful week! QUOTE: "The most important opinion is the one you have of yourself and the most significant things you say all day are those things you say to yourself." --Zig Ziglar NOTE: What we think of ourselves what we say to ourselves--these make up who we are and who we become. Negativity about oneself brings about self-destruction and feelings of defeat. Positive thoughts bring that "I can do it no matter what" attitude an attitude of being the best you can and of being a winner in the truest sense. When my students would say "I can't do that" before even trying I would try my best to make them see that they had to try they had to make the effort they had to believe. "The Little Engine that Could" is a really good example of this. So "I think I can I think I can" will turn into "I did it! And I knew I could." |
