Yesterday was spent doing outdoor chores--mostly grass cutting of course. Sid did that on the tractor while Randi and I watched a couple of movies on Lifetime (the "Love Comes Softly" series). Since we were ready to watch the regular Sunday programs we taped the last one to watch today--this one had Patty Duke in it and was really good. For dinner yesterday Randi wanted to get the so-called "hospital meal"--don't say YUCK; it's really good stuff. It's mostly for Senior citizens but others can get the meal as well. There is a $1 difference in price for them (higher of course). The meal consisted of roast beef slices with creamed potatoes some kind of corn dish (didn't recognize it) and a bread. There was also a dessert but Randi isn't much on desserts. Anyway she ate that and Sid and I just snacked for dinner. For supper last night I had decided to cook a whole chicken in the crock pot so we had to head off to W/D to get that and a couple of other items. I added potatoes in chunks onions celery and carrots placing them under the chicken. I added some chicken broth and sprinkled some basil on the chicken. Since we got started a little later than I had planned we used the 6-hour timer to make sure we didn't have to eat too late. After that time it was perfect--the chicken was so tender we needed to use a couple of spatulas to pick it up; then we put the veggies in another dish made a salad and just enjoyed an easily-prepared and delicious meal. Today Randi and I made plans to go to Baton Rouge for dinner but we didn't really make up our minds WHERE we would go until right before we left. Going to Piccadilly has become sort of a tradition with us--one trip there each time she visits--but we also considered going to the food court at the Mall of Louisiana to eat at the Great Steak Escape. I just didn't feel like fighting all the traffic in that area so we settled on Piccadilly. After our meal we walked a little to another area of the mall and got each of us a pretzel--garlic flavored for her and cinnamon for me. We really enjoyed that not having had one in such a long time. Of course Sid was at school while we were having fun. Tomorrow is the last class day for the seniors at Catholic High with testing for finals beginning Wednesday and lasting through Monday. I'm sure the kids are happy to have reached this stage and I hope they have studied enough to do well on these exams. Unfortunately there are some who will not pass this year and that is sad mainly because according to their teachers they are capable of the work; they just don't want to work at all. What a shame! When Sid got home from school today he wanted to mow a path to the woods with the tractor. Randi and I decided to take a 4-wheeler ride. When we reached Sid I noticed that the tractor though running was not cutting. Apparently he rolled over a huge ant pile and it forced the shear pin to break (a safety feature I am told) so Sid had to drive back to the barn to change that. When he was done I followed him back to the un-cut area and he got on the 4-wheeler with me so we could take a short ride. Randi was already back at the Cottage. Soon all three of us were here getting ready for supper. Tomorrow I have a dental appointment the one that had to be postponed after my oral surgery to make sure my gums were completely healed. So you know what I'm asking--prayers for that visit. I hate going there but you already know that. More on this later-- The rest of the day will be spent waiting for the numbness to wear off--oh yes--I get an injection for any work he does and tomorrow is definitely no exception to this rule I have. CONGRATULATIONS go out to Ty and Rett's team BAYOU THUNDER! They won the tourney this weekend and are very proud of themselves. Ty hit a home run in one of the games and Rett made an unbelievable catch (this according to other parents there) so they definitely contributed to the team having a terrific victory. Way to go BAYOU THUNDER! Today is also my brother-in-law Nathan's birthday. I'm not sure if he'll be in tonight or not but we wish him all the very best anyway. Also today Paul's daughter Shelley would have celebrated her 30th birthday. Sadly she is no longer with us but we remember her fondly and think of Paul and Mel (her sister) and they remember her in a special way today. Last night another niece was in an accident this time in a car. Trying to avoid a dog she swerved lost control and hit a culvert. She cut her head has lots of scratches and bruising and broke her right elbow. She also had signs of an irregular heartbeat but the doctors after monitoring that all day ok'd her for surgery tomorrow. Please keep her in your prayers. QUOTE: "The message is clear: PLAN with attitude; PREPARE with aptitude; PARTICIPATE with servitude; RECEIVE with gratitude; this should be enough to separate you from the multitudes." --Krish Dhanam NOTE: Sounds good to me! So many people (like the Seniors I mentioned earlier) have the aptitude but are lacking in attitude; many expect to receive things and never say "thank you" to anyone; others will serve ONLY if they receive benefit from their work. To which group do we want to belong--let's separate ourselves from the multitude and PLAN PREPARE PARTICIPATE AND RECEIVE with the right "tudes"--THAT's the way to succeed--and be happy! |
