Well it looks like I may be losing it--I thought for sure that I had written an entry on Monday; however here it is Tuesday and I checked my journal and found that my last entry was on Saturday. Oh well I wish I could say that that means I have tons of news to tell you but I don't. No matter; I'll give you what I have and that will have to satisfy your cravings for all the news at the Miller Cottage! First of all let me tell you that our niece had surgery this morning for her broken collarbone and did very well. They had considered it to be an "out patient" surgery but they did find that they had to put in a couple of pins so she may stay over one night; however everyone seems pleased with the results so that's really good news. We also got additional info on the accident. They did not hit a stump as we were originally told. Bess and Nathan like us have piles of brush that always needs burning. Apparently the young lady driving the 4-wheeler was not aware of this and sort of "ran into" one of the piles. They actually rolled on the edges of the piles sort of like driving around a "cone" and that's how they flipped over. Our niece apparently was thrown from the vehicle and lost consciousness for a while completely forgetting what happened until she awoke in the ER here in town. This could have been so much worse and we thank God that Somebody was watching over them. Just got some late news about Ben from Sandie. On April 30th he will have an EPTS medical briefing (whatever that is). Three weeks after that perhaps maybe possibly if the powers that be so deign they will begin paperwork to get Ben a medical discharge. Can you believe that? I remember the nuns and priests telling us once that it was much easier to get OUT of a convent or seminary than it was to get INTO one--all kinds of checks to make sure the candidates were right for becoming a nun or priest. One would think it would be the same in the military--check to make sure these guys/gals are the kind of people the military wants and needs and can use but if there is a problem (like a medical problem that Ben has) let them go. How can someone who has asthma work in the desert areas that we are presently servicing? C'mon--let the young man go home to get treated with ALL the medications that are available for asthmatics. More as I get more--- (Just got more: Ben called back and said he had gone back to ask questions (that was a good idea one which lots of youngsters don't do--ASK!!!) and got some more specific answers. There are several in authority who have to sign off on certain forms then the EPTS thingie; the latest news is that he "could" be home within four weeks. Please keep those prayers going! I know that that's what's helping to keep Ben sane and to get things going in the right direction. Again more as I get more...) Yesterday was spent making appointments for Mom Randi and me. Mom has been "hinting" that she needed another shot in her knee. She knows that there is nobody out there who can take her to the doctor so she keeps on hinting until I finally agree to call which I did. I had received a call from my cardiologist that it was time for my follow-up so I figured that while I was there I'd try to get Mom into her doctor's office--and I was able to do that. So also while I was there I decided to try to get Randi's eye doctor appointment which is really a bit late. She has to see the doctor regularly for glaucoma and to make sure that the medication she is on is working. So far it's been great and I see no reason to suspect anything different but we do need to have the pressure in her eyes checked on a regular basis. That being said I decided that I'd just as soon try to get my own eye doctor appointment made at the same time (just my regular eye check-up) so I called to see if it would be possible to do that at the same as Randi's. The nurse who works there has been a good friend at that office for years and she told me that she would DEFINITELY put me in no matter. THAT my friends is the difference between living in the same area for many many years and making good friends in doctors' offices stores markets whatever--they know you and they will do everything they can to help. That is so different here FOR ME; I'm sure it's done like that for long-time residents but it causes a lot of difficulty for us when we need a doctor--it's always wait and wait and wait; whereas at "home"--one can usually get in almost immediately. Of course it goes without saying that they also know at home who does and who doesn't abuse that privilege. Anyway next week I will be tending to FOUR appointments which should make that time in Lockport extremely busy! Oh and I also have my regular dental appointment here in New Roads. Yay me! Well like Jess told me today: "I'd rather be busy than just sitting around waiting for something to do!" Guess there won't be much waiting next week. LOL Last night we decided to take advantage of Satterfield's all-you-can-eat-fried-catfish night. I knew that Sid and Randi would get that but I was undecided. Finally I said OK to that choice as well but I was very disappointed. Actually the servings last night were much smaller than usual and I just didn't care for the fish. Eventually after trying my best to eat that fish I opted for a cup of gumbo to go with my baked potato and salad. THAT was good. Tonight Sid and Randi get to eat their left-overs and we'll have either white beans or smothered corn as a side (I cooked the beans yesterday and am cooking the corn as I do this entry). The weather today is fantastic--the sun is shining and the temperature is mild. It's supposed to hit 80 degrees today but for some reason it just doesn't feel that way. The rain is supposed to stay away for the rest of the week which would suit Sid just fine. Gotta plant that okra you know! The Seniors at Sid's school will finish up in a couple of weeks. Unbelievable! Sid said yesterday that he thinks he has five weeks and a day left of school for this year. That is so hard to believe. Getting older sure does make the time pass faster! The latest news on the baby is that he is doing OK. Bec hasn't heard from her friend in a couple of days so that's usually a good sign. I also have not heard more about Beau's uncle but he is at a stage right now where he could leave us at any time or he could linger for a while. Please pray that he is not suffering too much and that he is now ready to leave. Guess that's it for today. Hope you have a great evening and a wonderful week. QUOTE: "Do a little more than you're paid to. Give a little more than you have to. Try a little harder than you want to. Aim a little higher than you think possible and give a lot of thanks to God for health family and friends." --Art li NOTE: This is something I truly believe. It not only benefits others but I feel a lot better when I know that I've done the best I could plus a little bit more in effort. It just adds a smile to my soul when I know that whatever I was paid whatever I gave however high I climbed--I know that God family and friends were responsible in large measure. And I do thank them all every day! z88; |
