Sid and I arrived home this afternoon around 2:30 or so after our trip to Lockport for his dental appointment and so I could attend the funeral of my classmate. Here's what went on since I last wrote in my journal. We left here around 8:45am yesterday Easter Sunday (I'm saying that just so you'll know that I am still on track with our holy days). We made really good time too probably because everyone else was already where they wanted to be on Easter Sunday. We stopped for breakfast at a Waffle House in Brusly and really enjoyed our breakfasts. I usually do not care for the atmosphere there but yesterday I found it better perhaps because I could actually see that our waitress truly did not seem to mind the fact that she had to work on Easter Sunday--she was so friendly so helpful capable and efficient. I ordered the scrambled eggs with hash browns and a piece of ham; Sid ordered two eggs over medium with sausage and a pancake. Everything was very well prepared and we were served quickly. We got there just at the right time because there was soon a little group of people waiting for tables and we did not have to wait for ours. We wanted a breakfast that was quick and not expensive and this place met both of our requirements. Oh and of course it had to taste good too--and it did! When we were nearing Thibodaux we called Steve to see if they would be there so we could bring something to Emma and Jack. As it turned out they were just about to leave for the 11:30 Mass so we decided to head to Houma and see if we could get into our room even though we were actually about three hours early. They had told us just to call when we got close because we would probably be able to get in whenever we arrived--we did that and we were allowed entrance into our room. That was perfect because we were able to unload our car rest a little watch some tv and then we went to Thibodaux to see Emma Jack and their parents. (For those who don't this area Houma and Thibodaux are approximately the same distance from our old home town so getting to both was not a problem at all. When we figured that Steve and his family were back home we called to make sure and headed there. We had a pleasant surprise in that our nephew Michael and his family were also there and we got to visit with them as well. Emma and Jack loved their little gifts (knapsacks--with dancers for Emma and pirates for Jack--with their names embroidered on them) so that made us happy too. After visiting a while we headed off to see Mom but when we passed in front of her house there were a whole bunch of cars there and no place to park so we decided to visit with Bec and her gang first. It was a very nice little visit and we got to see all of her kids--and her of course--for a little while. After leaving there we went to the supermarket in town to pick up the food trays that Jess had ordered and went back to Mom's. By this time the cars were gone and we were able to visit with her and my brother Paul. Mom as usual was so happy to see us and she tried to get us to take a lot of the candy that she had received No thanks--we certainly didn't need that but the visit was nice. We also were able to visit Paul who is usually at work when I visit Mom on my many short trips out there. We even had a chance to stop at Rick's to see how he was doing. As you know Rick has fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis so he is always in pain but he looked good yesterday and he seemed to be feeling pretty OK too. Next--on to Jess' for supper. We were able to get a lot of visiting done in a very short time and we all enjoyed the sandwiches veggies fruits and drummettes. Jan also cooked a shrimp fettuccini and it was delicious. Because we didn't want to arrive at our room too late we didn't stay long after finishing our meal. We did go to the wake of my friend before going back to Houma. I hadn't seen him in a while and one could tell that he had been ill but it was still good to be able to see his wife and his sisters all of whom have been friends of mine for many many years. Of course I also got to see other classmates who were paying their respects. Home last night was a motel room but it was nice and comfortable. We were both pretty tired so we didn't stay up very late. We knew that we had to be up early today so we could get to Sid's appointment on time and so that I could spend a little more time with my friends before Art's funeral. We were awakened by a jackhammer going on in the parking lot very close to our room--apparently they are doing repair work there and they started early. But that was not too bad because it got us up and running with enough time to spare. Breakfast was at the motel restaurant a cozy little place right next to the lobby. We had a simple breakfast with another very nice waitress. After the meal we took off for Lockport. Sid dropped me off at church and continued on to his dental appointment. A good number of our classmates were able to attend Art's funeral so we had more time to see one another. What a shame that we don't visit more than we do and that we have to wait for a funeral to get together! Life just moves too quickly until it comes to that sudden stop called death! Art's funeral Mass was beautiful in its simplicity. His children were so supportive of their Mom; it was beautiful to see! His sisters and their families were not afraid to show their faith and their love for their brother and that was beautiful to see. Art had many other friends and acquaintances all of whom shared in the celebration of his life--and his death--and THAT was also beautiful to see. Rest in peace Arthur! After the funeral I tried to call Sid to pick me up; I could see our car parked in front of the dentist's office and I began to walk there. Just as I did I could see Sid calling me so the timing was perfect. I continued my walk to the car got in and we went over to pick up Randi who is visiting with us for a while. Our trip back here was pretty uneventful. Sid spent a good portion of the time putting an ice pack on his mouth where his tooth was removed. The process was a little more complicated than expected but he did well and doesn't seem to be having any major problems at this time. However the doctor did have to put in a few stitches and he wants Sid back there on THURSDAY of this week to have those stitches removed. Sid also has an appointment with his dematolgist on that day but we'll work out the logistics later. Well are you tired? I sure am! I can't wait until it's time for bed so that I can began my "trying to get some sleep" process. Tomorrow I go back to the dentist just for a quick look at the area from which my tooth was removed. IF the gums have totally healed we'll scheduled an appointment for a new filling that is needed. I'm not worried too much about this appointment 'cuz I know he won't be doing anything much. Yay! That's it for tonight! Hope you had a wonderful Easter and that this week finds you enjoying all things good. I ask that you say special prayers for Beau's uncle; he seems to be reaching the end of his earthen journey and I ask that you pray for a peaceful death for him and strength for his family to go through their grieving process. Because someday in life you will have been all of these." --George Washington Carver NOTE: WOW! This says it all doesn't it! If we could just remember this as we go through all these phases in our lives how differently we might treat others. Yes--let us try to remember this one and one day we might find that "what went around is coming around" and it will be GOOD! |
