Another weekend gone!

My Picture
Not much going on Friday and Saturday but today was a busy day. We went to Baton Rouge again today primarily to run a couple of errands but also to eat at OUTBACK. Haven't done that in a while so we were ready for some nice steaks--and we were very satisfied.

As I said Friday and Saturday were pretty dull--lots of rain and not able to do much outdoors including work on the garden. Hopefully this week will be better and the rest of the garden work can be done. Of course you know that I mean the planting because the REAL work comes once the crops start coming in--tomatoes bell peppers cucumbers corn potatoes yellow squash zucchini (our first time for the latter two) and who knows what else Sid will decide to try. I just hope we have a better crop than last year. Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Yesterday Josh called and told me how to get SKYPE so we can chat and SEE one another and of course I can see the kids. I downloaded the program and tried a call but I didn't realize that I didn't have a mike included in my computer nor in my web cam so.... Today Sid and I took a trip to Best Buy (after getting advice from Sandie/Todd and Josh) as to what to purchase. Sandie/Todd helped with advice regarding an external hard drive for me to back-up my pictures so I'll chat about that in a little while.

The young man at Best Buy was very helpful. He didn't try to pressure us into buying anything in particular but he answered our questions with apparent understanding of the products AND of what we were asking. Instead of purchasing a headset with a mike we decided to go with a new web cam that included a mike--and it has been installed. I haven't tried the mike yet because when I called Josh the line was busy. I hope this works 'cuz I'm not too keen on fooling around with installing and re-installing or un-installing stuff. That is NOT my thing! Anyway the picture sure is nice so I'm hoping the mike works too.

With regard the hard drive I'll work on that in a while. The young man's answer when I asked if it was difficult to install was something like this: "Can you plug something into a port?" When I said I could he indicated that once that was done the equipment gave step/step instructions and of course I always have Josh to lean on or Sandie/Todd (don't worry guys; I intend to do my very best to do it all by myself). So wish me luck and I'll let you know how things work out later.

Before we did all of this shopping for computer stuff we went to OUTBACK for dinner. We had spoken with Weze and Mike right before we left and invited them to meet us there for dinner. They said they would so that was an unexpected pleasure. We arrived at the restaurant just a little bit before they did so we got our table and were ready for them when they got there.

Our waiter was excellent. I told him that the only time I ever returned food was when my meat was not cooked "through and through" and that I could see the color pink when I cut it. He assured me that he would make my wishes known--and apparently he did. The meat was perfect--cooked through and through moist tender. I got a baked potato and a salad to go with that. Sid ordered the same thing but he got a baked SWEET potato with his meal. Weze and Mike order ribs and shrimp and Sid got to take the left-overs home for tonight or tomorrow. As an appetizer we ordered a "blooming onion" for all of us to share. I'm not too big on fried onions but this was delicious and the dip was fantastic. Of course the best part of the meal was visiting with Weze and Mike whom we don't get to see as often as we would like.

On the way back we stopped at WENDY'S for a trip to their "facilities" and each got a small Frosty. I also got a cup of ice for my Diet Sprite that was in the car. Traffic on the way back was rather dense but moved along smoothly so I was able to eat my Frosty without any problems. Sid of course finished his long before I did but we really enjoyed that too since we hadn't had one in a long time.

As soon as we got back home Sid headed to his "work room" to get his lessons done for tomorrow. He is also working on tests to be given on Wednesday so he'll be busy for the rest of the afternoon and evening I'm sure. Of course he had to stop a couple of times to help me reach behind the computer to plug in my new web cam and he just took another break to grab a snack. Like I said he'll be busy until late this evening I'm sure.

That's it for tonight. In case I didn't mention it Mom will be getting her Medic Alert chain on Wednesday so that'll ease all our minds considerably. And even though she would never admit this I think SHE will be more comfortable as well.

PS: When I read the name of the author of the quote I'm using it reminded me that the boys played a couple of games yesterday losing one and winning one. They were to play today but I haven't gotten the results yet. Also Ty and Carly attended the Athletic Banquet given to the Holy Savior kids this past week. I'm sure they enjoyed the gathering as much as we used to when we were in school.

Have a great evening and a terrific week!

QUOTE: "Success comes from taking the hand you were dealt and using it to the very best of your ability." --Ty Boyd

NOTE: So many blame the "hand they were dealt" with being the reason for their failures in life--parents were divorced/died not much money in the family lots of kids abusive/drunk/sick parents whatever. They say that these reasons caused them to be unable to succeed. On the other hand there are those who live in these same conditions and succeed IN SPITE OF THAT. Which one are you? Or were you like me? I was lucky enough to be raised in a loving home with good parents siblings whom I loved and love dearly and though not wealthy were provided with everything we needed. That is NOT the reason I consider myself successful but I'm sure those conditions didn't hurt. My point: No matter what you life situation YOU make the difference in whether or not you succeed YOU make the choices that bring you success or failure YOU are the one who has to do the work--or not. So check your hand--then do what you have to do to succeed. It's up to you!
