A new week begins!

My Picture
The weather was really lousy yesterday--rain from the time we got up to the time we went to bed. In addition the temp was a lot cooler than it has been for the past few days. You know though that I enjoy the cold weather within reason of course so that part was good; the rain though makes doing things outdoors less than fun.

We started off the morning rather late so I didn't cook for dinner. Instead we decided to go to DQ for lunch--we hadn't done that in quite a while. To be honest I prefer to go there for breakfast but it wasn't breakfast time so lunch had to do. We even got a banana split to share which is how we usually do that. These are the old-fashioned banana splits with the "boat" rather than cups that some places use these days. Even though we shared it was still too big for us to finish up but we enjoyed what we did eat.

We ran a couple of errands after eating mostly to try to find some plants for our garden. Unfortunately we didn't find the ones Sid wanted and today we found out why--he was giving them the wrong name. Hopefully we'll be able to get the brand he wants in Baton Rouge this weekend. Also hopefully the ground will be dry enough for tilling.

For the rest of the afternoon we just hung around the house with Sid trying to get some school work done. One of the biggest problems he has (and I assume the others teachers do as well) is that he rarely gives a test when ALL of the students are there. Some miss just about every test on the scheduled day and these tests are made up later. Of course that means that Sid can't go over the test with the other students until everyone has taken the test; in addition it delays the completion of his grading and recording these tests. If I remember correctly missing tests was a rarity when I was in school. I'm sure there were exceptions but these were usually for some really good reason--like you had the flu or were in the hospital or something. These days I think some kids just miss the test so they'll have more time to study or whatever. This is very inconvenient for everyone!

Today of course was Monday and that meant heading back to school for Sid. The weather was not so good again today so I stayed indoors. After school Sid stopped at Radio Shack to see if they could tell him what was wrong with his cell phone. For some time now when he made calls the received of the call could hear him but he couldn't hear the person he was calling. I suggested that possibly there was dust or something that prevented him hearing but he thought it was something else (no he didn't know what). Well Folks I'm here to tell you that his dear wife was correct!!!! They used one of those can that blow air (used to clean machinery and computers and stuff) and cleaned out the receiving area. Problem solved! Thank goodness 'cuz we didn't want to have to get a new phone.

We heard from Bec and Jess about Carly and Tyler and their rally experience. They didn't place but from what Bec and Jess said the people who ran the rally were very encouraging to ALL the participants letting them know that just being there should be considered an honor; these students were the best of the best and they had every reason to be proud. I know their parents--and grandparents--are very proud of them too.

Sandie's son had to go to sick bay this morning; he was told that the medications have not kicked yet and they should have by now. They're giving it two more weeks during which time he can try to pass his test. He did try just running the other day and had trouble breathing so it doesn't look too good. IF things don't improve in two weeks it looks like he may be given a medical discharge. Please keep him in your prayers that whatever decision is reached by the "powers that be" in this case is the best one for him--and for the military.

Nothing else to report so I'll sign off for tonight. Hope you have a wonderful evening and a dry tomorrow.

NOTE: Leave it to Will Rogers to come up with something that is funny and yet so very true. Too often we want to quit before we reach our destination toward our goal; if we reach a dead-end we need to remove those obstacles and continue on our journey. Know where you're going; stay on track; but keep on moving! Eventually you'll reach the station at which your destination can be found. Keep on a-travelling!
