Yes, Linda and I did go to Morel's for lunch yesterday, and it was really a nice experience. Linda, as you may or may not recall, is Mis' Dot's niece, the one who really tended to Mis' Dot while she was alive. Linda and I became fast friends via Mis' Dot, and we've been planning to get together for a while. But, you know how it is--one or the other of us always had something already scheduled. Yesterday, though, we decided to make this our day. My morning was kept busy with the normal stuff, so it passed rather quickly. We had decided to leave the house around 12:30 for our lunch, so I picked Linda up right about that time, and we headed off to Morel's. Although there were still quite a few folks dining, it wasn't packed, so getting served was quick and easy. Linda got some kind of grilled fish with a baked potato. I got the grilled tilapia with a baked potato and a salad (I always get a salad!); however, when my meal arrived, I had a lot more than I had bargained for--the tilapa (which was delicious, by the way) was on a bed of pasta/cheese (which was also delicious). BOTH Linda and I had not noticed on the menu that it came that way, but hey, it was good, it was filling, and it gave me left-overs. Everything was delicious, and our little waitress was superb. On a previous visit to Morel's, that young lady was there, and I was not at all impressed with her; however, I think back and realize that she was probably new and that's why she appeared a little inept. Yesterday, though, she was terrific--efficient, capable, friendly, and most helpful. I really enjoyed my lunch there. After our meal, I dropped Linda off at her house and headed over to the post office. When Sid got back, we finished off a couple of things we had to do, one of which involved changing our tv access to Direct TV. They will install the 'whatever' on November 1st (yes, I know it's a Saturday, but that's when they scheduled us to received the connection), and we can't wait. Our cable service has not been great of late, with our tv going off for no apparent reason. Hopefully, this will work out better. Bess recommended this and since she had tv long before we did after the storm, we figured we'd give it a try. There will be a lot more channels at less cost; I'm not sure what we'll do with so many channels, but I love movies, so I'm hoping that this will allow me to watch movies more easily. More on this later-- Supper consisted of left-overs, as you might have guessed--fried catfish from Satterfield's on Monday and my tilapia from yesterday. These foods were almost as good as they originally were, and both of us enjoyed our supper immensely. After supper, we decided to take another ride on the 4-wheeler, even though it was beginning to show signs of a setting sun. I really can't wait until winter, when the fallen trees are leaf-less and we'll be able to create paths through the woods. That is what we really enjoy doing, because so often, there are excellent photo ops there, and I love taking pictures, in case you haven't figured that out yet. Speaking of pictures, Randi wrote last night and asked me to send her some pictures of herself when she was little. I had to scrounge around my old hard copies to find some, but I managed to do that. This morning, I scanned about a dozen photos and sent them off to Randi. She has already uploaded to her Facebook page, and I checked it out. Cute! She put up several of them, and I assume more will appear there as time goes on. Carly and Tyler will be playing basketball this year on their school team. I played basketball in my youth, and I love watching the kids play, so I look forward to getting their schedules so I can make plans to attend a couple of their games. Apparently, their basketball season is relatively short, so I'll have to make sure I schedule other appointments and stuff at the time they're playing. Carly has been playing Biddy for a couple of years; Tyler has not. This is the first time either of them plays on the school team, though. We had thought Rett was done with football after this coming weekend; however, because of Gustav, things were changed around and they will be playing for at least another week or so. After that, I hope they can make a trip out here. I had a long conversation with Mike yesterday, which is very rare because of his work schedule. I wanted to make sure that he got the Thanksgiving plans far ahead of time so that they could keep that date clear. Then, of course, we hit just about every topic under the sun, most especially talking about his gardens. He usually has a lot of success there, and he's considering a winter garden. I'm sure Sid would do that, too, if he only had the time. Guess we'll see what happens there. It's about time for me to give Mom another call. She usually calls, too, but it's very difficult for her to dial numbers, so I try to call as often as I can. I know she's anxious to visit with her newest great-granddaughter, Aliya. I've printed up a couple of LARGE pictures for her and hopefully, she'll be able to see well enough to enjoy that. That's it for today! Have a great evening and a terrific tomorrow! BASKETBALL: "A coach's main job is to reawaken a spirit in which the players can blend together effortlessly." --Phil Jackson NOTE: Wouldn't our world be a better place if that statement were true and all the people here would "blend together effortlessly" as well? As much as I think, as a teacher, that sports rule academia, I also applaud the coach who canmake his players truly become a team, a group of individuals who become one, always working for the benefit the whole. Life should be that kind of game--one in which we all work for the betterment of the whole. |
