We have been having such beautiful weather lately, but we knew the rains had to come eventually. Today was that day! After dinner, I was watching a little TV when I heard what I thought was thunder--and it was. The first thing I did was turn off my computer--just in case--and then I just continued watching a movie and listened to the sounds of the rain. I LOVE the sound of rain hitting the roof, and here at the Cottage, I can look out my back door and see the rain moving closer and closer to the house. It always amazes me to see that, and it reminds me of those days when I was a kid and we would "race" the rain from one house to another. It also brings to mind the "smell" of the rain, another pleasant memory from my youth. I received an e-mail from Joey this afternoon--a very to-the-point message: Potato salad, send directions; want to prepare that tonight!!! So, I did! Of course, for something like that, something I've been preparing for so many years, I don't have measurements to provide, so I just gave the ingredients (potatoes, eggs, mayo, mustard--our kids always liked it "plain") and added some info (how many potatoes depends on how large a salad you want--I usually do 4-6 large potatoes, or sometimes, even a 5# bag); how many eggs depends on how many potatoes (I almost always boil at least 6, because I like to eat one of the eggs while I'm finishing up the salad); how much mayo depends on the other two items (so I just told him how I like the mixture of eggs/mayo/mustard to be "thinner" than for the egg salad that we use to make sandwiches and/or deviled eggs); how much mustard depends on how much you like mustard. He must have understood all my stuff, 'cuz he wrote back and said that he thought that would be easy to do. Guess I'll find out how it turned out in his next e-mail. Mom called this afternoon, too. Even though I've been telling her for at least two weeks that I would be coming on Thursday, she "forgot" that info and just wanted to check to see how much I had to do during these two days that I'll be there. Hmmmmmm--what could she possibly want me to do this time? Well, Folks--as hard as it is for us to get her to see her family doctor, all of a sudden, she wants to see her family doctor. Oh, no--that's not it! She wants to get the flu shot (which I like for her to get anyway, but....) AND she wants him to check her knee (she wants him to give her a shot there as well). At first, SHE was going to call to make the appointment. Oh, no--since I knew my schedule, perhaps I could call for her. Well, you know how this story ends, don't you--I called, made the appointment, checked on the flu shot, and now will change my plans so that I can take her there. My schedule on these couple of days is really full, and I had planned to leave for Lockport in the afternoon of Thursday. Instead, I'll just leave earlier in the morning to get her there for her 1pm appointment. To be totally honest, I probably would have left earlier than I was planning, but I don't think it would have been that early. Anyway, she's happy now, so I guess that's what counts. Although Mom kept saying that she "didn't want to make me rush things", I don't think she realizes how little time I do have when I go to Lockport. For these two days (plus a little bit of Saturday morning), I have a haircut appointment, two doctor's appointments (one is a f/u and one is to renew prescriptions), and one football game. Now, I have Mom's appointment as well. Guess I'll be pretty busy! I think I'm getting too old for this stuff. LOL Sid and I took a quick ride to the back a while ago, mainly to see how much standing water there might be after the heavy rains of today. Believe it or not, we didn't see any--oh, I forgot--there was one tiny spot right near the barn--but considering the amount of rain we had for that little while, it was pretty dry out there. Supper tonight was left-overs from yesterday PLUS some smothered potatoes that I decided to cook so I could bring some to Mom. The other day, when I cooked smothered potatoes for Sid and me, she mentioned how much she liked that AND how much she liked home-made veggie soup, another thing I had mentioned cooking recently. So, when Jan came this weekend, SHE asked me to cook a soup, which I did. I asked her to bring her Granny some of the soup, too, and she did. So, Mom will get a chance to eat some soup AND some smothered potatoes in the same week. Hope she enjoys both foods! When we went to SAM's the other day, we bought a 4 CD set of music from my era. Right now, I'm listening to the theme from the movie PICNIC, the song being "Moonglow"--next on the list is TAMMY by Debbie Reynolds. Like I said, songs from my era. I've been enjoying them all day as I sat at my computer. Most of the songs are relaxing, but there are also some like PURPLE PEOPLE EATER, ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK, and ITSY BITSY TEENIE WEENIE YELLOW POLKA DOT BIKINI to bring me back to the reality of that time. Randi and I did some IMing today. She finally has her new computer, and she is really enjoying that. While she was here, she did use Sid's computer, but she really likes having her own--and now she does once again. We even were able to use our QuickCams to see one another while chatting. That's it for today. Have a great evening and a wonderful day tomorrow! GOD AND NATURE: "There is not a flower that opens, not a seed that falls into the ground, and not an ear of wheat that nods on the end of its stalk in the wind that does not preach and proclaim the greatness and the mercy of God to the whole world." --Thomas Merton NOTE: Imagine that! All these things, which do not possess souls, preach and proclaim the greatness and mercy of God to the whole world! How much more should we, created by HIM, give Him praise and honor. As beautiful as these things in nature are, WE, my fellow humans, are much greater in that we were created in HIS image and likeness. We sometimes forget this; let's not do that any more. Let us give thanks to HIM Who has created us, thanks for all the things we have in our lives--our families, our friends, our very lives. Thank you, Lord, for all our gifts! We REALLY do appreciate Your love for us--and we give love to all with whom we come in contact! |
