Politics--not my favorite subject; however, I must admit to having watched the presidential debate the other day and the vice-presidential debate tonight. I respect everyone's right to their own opinion, and everyone has to vote their own consciences. I support the McCain/Palin ticket, and I feel that Governor Palin did an excellent job during tonight's debate. Of course, Senator Biden did well, too, but considering all the factors leading up to this debate, I truly feel that Sarah Palin showed her true potential. It's OK if you disagree, but that's my view. I'm sure we'll hear/see/read the views of a lot of people over the next few days, too, and that's fine. I don't usually enjoy such programs, but I must admit to enjoying this one. And, while we're discussing the program, I must also admit to some reticence about the moderator--at first; however, she did an EXCELLENT job, showing absolutely no bias at all from my view. All in all, a good night for everyone (especially Gov. Palin). Randi and I stayed home all day today, except for a quick run to the post office. When Sid got back home, he changed the shear pin on the tractor so he could finish up mowing the orchard. That done, hopefully we'll be able to get back on track with that, not letting the grass reach those awful heights that we've had to contend with lately. A trip to the meat market brought us some delicious t-bones for supper tonight. These were pretty thick, and I don't usually care of that size; however, these cooked quickly, were perfectly marinated, and were absolutely delicious. I cooked TWO for the three of us, and we even have a little piece left over. They were HUGE! Side dishes were corn and peas, and I think we all had full stomachs when we were done. I spoke with Mom these evening, and she is still in pain. Hopefully, that will pass before too long; however, she has pain medications and she waits until the pain reaches such a level that it takes longer and longer to ease off. Also, Paul isn't there tonight, and, of course, I always worry about that. She assured me, though, that she was being extra careful, and my brother knows that she is alone and can see about getting help for her should there be any problems. With regard my little brother, he is soon to become a grandfather for the first time. His daughter's due date was yesterday, so it shouldn't be long. We wish them all the very best as they receive this new blessing in their lives. The end of the week is already arriving. Gosh! This week passed very quickly. I know that Sid is glad 'cuz he commented on how he was tired this week. Of course, he seems to forget that he teaches all day, comes home to whatever work needs to be done around the Cottage, and then, still has school work to do. Imagine that! He's tired! I cannot fathom why that would be! Speaking of his work around the Cottage, Sid is always busy doing one thing or another. Keeping the yard mowed is a big job--we actually mow as a lawn our front and back yards, approximately 1 1/2 acres; we also keep up the orchards, approximately 6-7 acres, using a bushhog, which doesn't give quite as finished a look as the mower; however, it really looks nice when the grass length is "normal" and not as tall as it has been lately. Since my sciatica attack, I haven't mowed as much as usual, but I really enjoy doing that, both on the mower AND on the tractor. Sid is always on the alert, though, for any signs that I might have pain in my back, and he discourages me from doing that--strictly for my benefit, not his--but sometimes, I do it anyway, and so far, no major problems. That's it for tonight! Hope you have a great evening and a terrific end-of-the-work week! CONFIDENCE: "Real confidence comes from knowing and accepting yourself--your strengths and your limitations--in contrast to depending on affirmation from others." --Judith M. Bardwick NOTE: Affirmations are good; REAL confidence is better. Tonight, I think Gov. Palin exhibited the self-confidence that she has, and that was good. Tomorrow's tv news and the newspapers will either affirm or criticize her, but I don't think she will be affected by that. WE should all recognize our strengths and limitations and live our lives accordingly. Without limitations, we would not be human; however, we can use those limitations in positive ways (I may not be able to play football, but I can surely cheer my team on; I may not be a good swimmer, but I can make sure my kids know how to swim (so they can save me--that's what I used to tell my kids when they didn't want to take swimming lessons). Accept who you are; remember, you need to be the best you possible! PS: Just wanted to make note of a technical issue--as a typing teacher, I taught my students that there is a "double space" after a period and/or at the end of a sentence. My BIL mentioned in his blog the other day that the NEW rule is only ONE space there. Guess what! I just noticed that even though I space twice at the end of my sentences, the computer is automatically putting in one. Ah, computers! They even try to save time when we don't ask for it! |
