Back home again!

My Picture
We just got back from our trip to Lockport--tired, but exhilarated at the same.  This time, we actually got to see a few extra folks that we don't usually get to see, including my brother, Rick.

Sid and I left the Cottage around 9am on Wednesday, getting to Shoney's for breakfast about 45 minutes later.  From then on, things went along smoothly.  We did get a call from Jess asking if we would be stopping at L&N for ham.  Well, we HAD planned to stop on our way back here, but since she wanted ham and cheese, we decided to stop on our way to Lockport instead.  Then, we decided to check out our motel, just in case we would be able to check in a little early--and we did!

We actually checked in more than two hours before the scheduled check-in-time, which was perfect.  We unloaded all our stuff and decided to continue on to Lockport.  We visited with Mom first, and she was glad to see us, especially since she hadn't expected us to be there at that time.  Because we were already checked in, we had more time to visit.  I also brought her some pictures that I thought she like from the wedding.  We tried to see Rick, too, but he was still taking his nap, so we continued on to Bec's.

Bec and her kids were on their way back from Mississippi, and we thought we'd miss them, but I wanted to drop off some pictures of Jessie's wedding.  Surprisingly, they had just gotten home, so we were able to visit with them for a little while.  Since Sid and I had stopped for lunch at Politz' in Napoleonville, we picked up a shrimp remoulade for her, knowing how much she enjoys that.

By the way, this place was the original Politz' Restaurant, but we had never been there.  We usually go to the one in Thibodaux, so this was a new experience.  The food was pretty good, though the remoulade was not quite as good as the one in Thibodaux.  Also, this place only served buffet-style meals, and that's really not what we wanted; however, we managed, and the remoulade turned out to be pretty good and very filling.  Also, the people there were so friendly and helpful.

We also brought a remoulade for Jess and dropped that off at her house.  Channie has been suffering from swimmer's ear for the past couple of days, and her Nanny Jan was babysitting.  By the time we got there, though, after finally getting to see Rick, Jess was back home and Channie was really not feeling well.  She immediately wanted to sit on my lap, and, of course, I LOVE it when she does that.  She's doing a lot better today, but she has a way to go yet before the infection is totally gone.

Our visit with Rick went well.  He hasn't been having many good lately, but he keeps on trucking.  The old fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis sure make life hard for him.  Please keep him in your prayers.

After all the visiting, we headed back to our motel in Thibodaux.  Supper was at Sizzlin, and, as usual, it was good.  Neither of us could finish our meal, though.  All that eating out is fun, but it gets old fast.  As much as I enjoy that, I reach the point where eating is just something we have to do, so we have to stop eating out and just get back to basics for a little while.  That won't last too long, though, and I'll be ready to get back to "eating out" again.

Both of us were tired, so we went to bed pretty early--getting older does that to you, I supposed.  The room was VERY COLD, which is what I like; unfortunately, the a/c didn't seem to like that much.  This morning, when we started packing to leave, I walked near the table in the room to get my wallet, keys, etc.  Squish, squish--yep! The a/c had leaked into the room, so the floor all around that table was soaked.  Thankfully, my blankets, which were falling on the floor, did not get wet, but it was a mess.  Naturally, we told the clerk when we check out, and she didn't seem surprised.  In fact, her exact words were:  "Not again!"  Hmmmmm--didn't like the sound of that!

Our next stop--breakfast in the motel restaurant.  Again, the food was very good, but there was way too much of it.  Neither of us finished our plate.  The waitresses there were EXTREMELY friendly, especially one that just stood around our table wanting to chat about her son, a graduate of Chef John Folse's culinary classes at Nicholls State University (my alma mater).  We listened politely, but we had to continue eating so we could head back to Lockport.

We have a couple of errands to run around town, and we finally picked up Randi (she wanted to come back with us) and left for Sid's meeting in St. Charles Parish.  The meeting, which started at 3pm, was supposed to last an hour--it didn't!  It lasted a little more than TWO hours.  We had dropped Sid off and had lunch at Shoney's--Randi really enjoyed her meal; mine was OK, but, as I said, enough is enough--time to get back into the "eating at home" routine.  After the meeting, we headed back here.

We did stop in Thibodaux so Sid could get some food (he hadn't eaten lunch because he would have been late for the meeting), and he wanted to try a Mexican Restaurant there, one that Steve recommended.  I decided to get some fajitas to bring home; he ate a burrito like Steve had last night; Randi stuck with the old stand-by burger.  I just finished eating a small portion of my meal--again, good, but far too much.

As you can tell, we had a busy couple of days.  The best part, of course, was seeing our kids/grand kids and getting to see Mom and Rick.  My other brother, Paul, was at work, so we missed him.  We'll have to make sure to see him next time.

That's it for tonight!  Hope you had a great couple of days and that this evening finds you relaxed and ready for the weekend.

NOTE:  Do you have a dream?  Do you attempt to bring it to life, or do you say--"One of these days"  or "I will be"---  Too often, we use this as an excuse NOT to dream, but what about TODAY?  Why not TODAY?  Get with TODAY!  Start bringing your dreams to life, and then, you can say "I DID" rather than "I WILL"---sound good to you? Sounds good to me!
