Yes, I know I put in an entry last night and said I wasn't going to be writing every night--well-----what can I say! We had some exciting stuff happening today, and I wanted to share with you. Actually, it wasn't that exciting, but something did happen. We FINALLY got rid of the two posts that Mis' Dot near her trailer. We're not completely what she had on there, but she had a phone (that was removed a while back) and she had electricity, so we assume that these items were hooked up via these two poles. She also had a "night light" out there, and that was removed today as well. Getting the Entergy folks here seems extremely difficult (and it was), but once they got here, these guys were fantastic. Within less than an hour, they had removed the telephone wire (done as a favor to us) and had removed the two poles and whatever was still attached to them. AND, they filled in the holes in which the poles stood. WOW! Of course, they had the right equipment to do this, but they were extremely nice as well. Sid has also been digging up posts that were around the trailer. Some of them we know supported the long front porch she had; some of them seem to have no specific intent. Comparing what was done today in less than an hour, Sid has to dig up the posts AND the cement that was holding them secure; each post takes a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour, and he uses a shovel, a hoe, and a pick to do this, improving very often as to which one to use on specific posts. It's a tough job, and so far, he's done about 9 of them, with about 3 more to go. Believe me, he is exhausted when he's through pulling those things out of the ground. Had we known how secure those posts were, we would not have worried that much about Mis' Dot being in the trailer. Nah! We would still have worried, but at least she was safe in there based on the security of those posts. Rain threatened again today, and we actually had some water dripping from the roof--but it was far from enough to make a difference in the garden and with the pecan trees. Every so often, we hear a little shower, but we're still praying for more. I spoke with Channie today, and I asked her about her "booboo"--she said it hurt when she fell and she cried; but she said it was all better. Jess told me today that the injury was more to the underneath of her upper lip, and no damage was done to the teeth, as I mentioned last night. Randi just sent me an e-mail, and she mentioned that she, her little sister, and her Mom spent a couple of hours at Jan's house, along with Jess, Jan (of course), and Channie. The kids did some swimming; the adults did some chatting. (Before Randi get's upset with me, I know she's an adult, too, but this time, she went into the pool with the kids, so---) Randi said they all had a great time, so that was good--and refreshing, I'm sure. That's it for tonight! Hope you have a terrific evening and a wonderful weekend. "The toughest part of parenthood has nothing to do with putting food on the table, clothes in the closet, or tuition money in the bank. The toughest part of parenthood is never knowing if you're doing the right thing." --D. L. Stewart NOTE: But, don't you just love it when your kids start using the same phrases, same punishments, same methods of teaching, etc. My girls tell me often these days how much they are like me. Well, I HOPE that's a good thing, 'cuz we surely did the best we could. One thing I used to always tell our kids was this: "When I go to bed at night, I have to believe that I did the best I could; then, and only then, will I be able to get a good night's sleep." |
