No, I didn't put in a journal entry last night--just got busy with every-day stuff and actually forgot until it was time for bed. Bed???? That's used for sleeping, right? Well, let me just tell you about that---
First of all, today is Wednesday, so far a lovely day; however, on MONDAY night, I didn't get to sleep until almost 3am--not too good. Then, to top it off, during my best sleeping time of any day--that time between about 7am-10am--the phone rang. No big deal, right? Right, except that I had just finally gone to sleep in what I considered to be a GOOD SLEEP. It was the AT&T man telling us that he was on his way. Fine, just knock at our door and we'll let you in. That will tell me that you're here! You don't need to call when you're half-an-hour away to let me know that you're in your truck and driving here. WE already said that we would be here during the time you told us to expect you--between 8am and 1pm--so what's the big deal? I guess I shouldn't complain because he was here within the hour and was very nice, friendly, and apparently knowledgeable in what he was doing. He was actually here to tend to TWO problems for which we had called AT&T--the static in our phone and the fact that our DSL line apparently had some problem with an outside line (per our computer repair man's assessment AND a conversation with someone at AT&T). This guy did a good job--our phone is now working WITHOUT static and my DSL is operational again and not kicking me off the internet on a whim. So, until I start having problems with either of this situations (and I'm going to think positively and say that we WON'T), I guess I have to forgive him for waking me up. He didn't know that I hadn't slept most of the night. Right? Right! During the afternoon yesterday, I actually took a nap, something I rarely do. Of course, it was one of those in/out sleeps, one that was again disturbed by a phone call. This was one of those recorded things from a politician, and they really get me angry. I've reached the point where if I don't hear a response to my greeting immediately, I hang up. I have better things to do than to wait for someone else's voice to come on my phone via a recording. Guess what--we had some rain last night. Unfortunately, it really wasn't enough, we don't think, to keep Sid from having to water the pecan trees. Maybe, just maybe, when he rides out there to check, we will be pleasantly surprised and find that there WAS enough water to provide those thirsty little trees enough to satisfy their growth. And, of course, the rains came just as Sid was finishing up his watering of part of the garden. He fills a huge garbage can with water and uses a bucket to go from plant to plant--and this is really tiring. Hopefully, the rains did the job, though, and perhaps we'll get a little more today (according to the forecast anyway). Our trip to Texas is getting closer--we leave on the 27th to spend the weekend there, watching our little ones play baseball. I'll be there to watch some games, but I'll also be the designated babysitter at times. Channie is really still too young to "enjoy" being out in the sun like that, and I'm too old to enjoy it, so we make a good team. Randi will be coming with me, and she and I will be sharing a room. I'll be bringing along some food items--some deli-type and some cooked before I leave--so we shouldn't have to eat out very much. Trying to save money on food AND on gas! Not much else is going on these day. The garden and the work in/around the Cottage is taking up most of Sid's time, things with which I was usually a helper. Unfortunately, since the sciatica problem, I just can stand for long enough to do any good, and lifting is a definite No No. I just worry about him being in the sun so much, and I have become an expert "nag" about that, making sure he comes in to take a break fairly often. (I use the excuse that he needs to come and sit with me on the swing for a little while, and that usually gets him inside.) Hope you have a good day and that this "hump day" finds you excited about the weekend. (With regard my usual quote, the one I love is too long to copy, so I'll briefly summarize. I'm sure you're heard this one before anyway, so you'll know what it's all about.) HEARTFELT BLESSING: This is a story about GOSSIP--A man loved to gossip and would say all kinds of BAD things about others; he realized after a while that this was harmful and wanted to make amends. He spoke to his rabbi who told him to purchase two pillows, to take them to the top of a mountain, tear them open, and spill the feather into the wind. So the man did! Afterwards he returned to the rabbi to tell him that he was done and was told he had one more thing to do to make amends--GATHER ALL THE FEATHERS. The man realized that this was impossible because the feathers were scattered all over the countryside. The Rabbi agreed and said, "What is true of the feathers is true of the words. Once spoke they can never be retrieved. The harm caused by gossip cannot be undone." --Rabbi Rami Shapiro NOTE: Sometimes we let our mouths open up before we put our brains in gear--we say things without realizing how harmful they might be. We should always let what we say truly reflect what is the best part of us. In other words, think before you speak! |
