Glasses and Mouse Balls

In the coming week, my one and only grandchild will be one year old. Both sides of the family decided to celebrate this event, this past weekend, for the convience of those that work during the week.

We decided to have a picnic at the local park, which was a perfect place to escape and have some fun. The swings and sliding board were good for the older kids and the wading pool would definitely come in handy after the kids used cake icing as finger paints.

I won’t deny the covered picnic area was the perfect place to perch us older folks.
After all, this was the first time Ben and Susan had hosted a family event. It was good to let the younger ones take charge, for a change.

Well, on the day of the picnic, I thought I had everything under control, as far as my part was concerned.

Things weren’t going so well, as I was getting dressed, though. There I was, sitting at my vanity, putting on my make up. Now, everyone knows I need glasses to find my glasses and I am very careful where I put my glasses. So I sat there. I had put on the foundation, dusted on a little power, before I applied my eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara. I had been sipping on my second or third cup of coffee. Anyway, I thought I should brush my teeth before I put on my lipstick. So, off I go to the bathroom.

After picking up a few things, and basically working my way toward the sink, I finally got my teeth brushed. As I was going back to my bedroom, I remembered that I needed to get the candles for the cake and I had some in the “junk drawer”. (Everyone has a junk drawer, sometimes more then one.) Anyway, I was going through the junk drawer looking for candles, and I found dried up markers, push pins, screws from things long gone, and several mouse balls.

Over the years, the “mice” have been replaced, but the balls are perfectly good and I hang on to things that might be one day be recycled. Who knows when, or where, you might need a new mouse ball?

Mouse balls come in different sizes, depending on the size of the mouse. Sometimes the balls get dirty and need to be washed; I don’t mind washing mouse balls. But it’s hard to get them dry. Any way, the mouse I was using kept losing its ball, and as you know a mouse that has trouble with its ball, is not a mouse you can depend on. It runs all over the place. With all this in mind, I couldn’t remember what size ball my mouse needed, so I picked out a couple and slipped them in my pocket, along with my cell phone.

I found the candles and headed into the bedroom to put on my lipstick. I finally got that done and I couldn’t find my glasses. They weren’t on the vanity, so back to the bathroom and still no glasses. I ended up back in the junk drawer. I found another mouse ball that looked better than one of the ones I had decided to keep, so I traded that with one of the mouse balls I had. I still didn’t find my glasses.

Well, with all that stuff in the junk drawer, my hands were getting dirty, so I headed back to the bathroom to wash my hands. As I stood there, I glanced up into the mirror and would you believe it? Sitting on top of my head was my glasses!

Well one good thing came of it, I finally got my hands on a couple of very good mouse balls.

We finally got to the picnic.

I was standing there holding my granddaughter and my cell phone rang. My son reached into my pocket, to get my cell phone, and you should have seen the look on his face when he also came out with two mouse balls. Even more interesting, you should have seen how fast everyone turned and looked when Ben said, “Mom, I have your balls in my hand.”

You should have seen my face.
