Quick trip into Baton Rouge

What????  Was that rain falling from the skies??? Yes, it was!  It really wasn't enough to do much good for the garden and the pecan trees in the orchard, but at least it was something.  There are still those big, gray, rain-filled clouds above us, so perhaps they'll empty out during the night and provide nourishment for all the plants--and little animals, too.

Sid worked in the garden most of the day (even in the rain, believe it or not) and he accomplished a lot; however, he still has more to do.  Our tomato plants look great; cucumbers are coming up; snap beans are REALLY growing; corn and bell peppers are in the ground, and he hopes to plant zucchini and cantaloupe soon.  As you can see, he's changing our plant repertoire--trying new things all the time.

PT was this morning, as is the norm for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  So far, I have one more week scheduled.  Today, though, they added two more exercises, these a little more difficult than the others.  I did OK with them and am not feeling worse because of them.  We'll see what happens next week.

This afternoon, we headed to Baton Rouge to visit with Martha Anne after her double-knee replacement surgery.  Although she was rather drowsy from having had to take nausea medicine because the pain medicine got her sick, she looked fine.  We chatted a little while and left after her supper came in.  Since she wasn't able to eat her dinner, we didn't want to disturb her eating tonight.  She will be transferred to a rehab center tomorrow, probably to stay 1-2 weeks there, depending on how she progresses.  Please continue your prayers for her!

After visiting with Martha Anne and her daughter, Pauline, we headed back toward SAM's to pick up a few items there.  As you might imagine, we try to accomplish as much as we can each trip to avoid having to make additional trips to Baton Rouge.  We got everything that was asked of us plus a few things that we needed as well.

Now, you know that we wouldn't get that close to DON's without having supper there; of course, I won't even mention that we had a coupon for DON's (oops!  I DID mention it, didn't I?).  We had our usual delicious meal and everything was great, except that Sid spilled his glass of water all over the table, dripped on his pants, and even wet a couple of hush puppies.  Oh, no!!!!  Oh, yes, but not to worry--we got fresh ones.  And, of course, we have left-overs for tomorrow.  Waste not, want not!!!

We had a few raindrops on the way back to the Cottage, but again--not enough to do much good for the garden and the pecan trees.  If it doesn't rain enough in the next few days, Sid will have to tote his big garbage can full of water in our trailer behind the 4-wheeler to water each of the trees via buckets of water.  Hard work, believe me, but necessary to make sure that we have a good crop of pecans over the years.

Mom was taken to her retinal specialist to day by Rick and his son, Cody. He sent an e-mail telling us the results of the visit:  Apparently, the news is about the same as last time--her left eye is OK (not great), but her right eye is pretty much useless for reading.  The doctor doesn't think it will get worse, but there is nothing more that can be done to improve her vision.  So, I guess she'll just continue doing what she has been doing, and that's just seeing whatever she can see and appreciating whatever vision she does have left.  I often joke with her that "except for not being able to see, not being able to hear, and hardly being able to walk, she's doing just great"--and she admits that this is true.  She still has a good attitude, and that will hold her in good stead for however long we have her with us.

Everything else here is about the same, so I'll say that this is all for tonight.  Hope you have a great evening and a super weekend!

HEARTFELT BLESSING:  "I write about people who sometime in their life have a vision or dream of something that should be accomplished and they go to work.  They are beaten over the head, knocked down, vilified, and for years they get nowhere.  But every time they're knocked down, they stand up.  You cannot destroy these people.  And at the end of their lives, they've accomplished some modest part of what they set out to do."

NOTE:  Getting up after a fall is the secret to success!  So, don't stay down--rise, and SHINE!

PS:  It's raining right now.  Thank you, Lord!
