One of the highlights of my recent trip to South Africa was a visit to an ostrich farm. I'd seen a few ostriches in the wild, and a few on other trips, but this is the first time I'd seen so many at once. They are ugly creatures, and they can move very fast.

I turned down the opportunity to ride an ostrich, just as I turned down opportunities to ride camels and elephants on previous trips. I'm either too old or just a coward.

Ostrich steak? Not bad, and it doesn't taste like chicken, either!
