A hot/dry/busy/exciting day!

Thank goodness for variety in our lives--busy days, slow days, exciting days, "blah" days, hot, cold, wet, dry, combinations of the preceding.  That all makes for an interesting life, don't you think?

Today was a combination day:  hot, dry, busy, exciting--nice grouping, huh?  Of course, we have no control over the hot/dry part, but we do have some control over the rest.  Let me tell you about those parts--and the hot/dry as well.

First of all, with the hot/dry weather, we thought surely the trailer would be moved today.  We thought wrong!!!  They didn't come today, and because tomorrow is Sunday, we're assuming they won't be here then either.  I guess they're waiting for another rainy day so they'll have a REAL excuse NOT to move the trailer.  We are getting rather disgusted with all of this, mainly because there is so much junk in our yard--parts of the porch, parts of the trailer skirt, lots of cement, and just a big mess. We're ready for all of that to be done with--and hopefully, it will before too long.

This morning, we had breakfast at DQ, after which we went to W/M to pick up our meds and a few things I'll be needing for my trip to Denver.  While there, I received a phone call from the place where we ordered our tiller--IT WAS IN!!!  They had checked it out to make sure it was in good condition (a really good point about buying at that place--they did the same thing with our new chain saw), put whatever fluids it needed, and had it ready for pick-up.  We decided to go there right after we dropped off our stuff at the Cottage.

We left for BR around 11:30 or so and were at the place in about 45 minutes or so.  The man explained the operation of the unit again, we paid our bill, and were ready to leave.  Before we left, Sid was talking to the young salesman and commented about how the difficult part now would be to make the rows for our garden.  The young man mentioned that a piece could be added to make furrows for the garden, so Sid decided to check that out.  After looking at the information and the pictures, we decided that we would order that, too ($45 to save a LOT of time and energy for Sid would be definitely worth it).  They'll call when that's ready for pick-up, which should be some time next week.

By the time we finished everything, it was time for lunch, so we stopped at SONIC's for that.  Again, we decided to eat at a table rather than in the truck--the reason we ate there was because we didn't want to leave the tiller in the back of truck without us being there--lead them not into temptation.  There are always little birds around the tables at Sonic, so today, I threw a little piece of French fries to the birds.  One of them almost caught it "in the air"--very interesting to watch them.

Our trip back home was uneventful, which is the kind of trip I like.  We just had time to relax a little before we went to Mass.  Fr. Bob did a nice job with the homily today, reminding us that we (the human race) need be aware of the fact that "we're all in this together" and that we need one another.  He's right, but so often, people forget that and think only of themselves.  I guess that was our challenge for our lives!

Sports news:  Carly is in Wichita with her team, playing in some kind of national tourney.  Her team had a practice scrimmage today and lost by only 5 points.  They start the actual tourney on Monday, and I think she's excited.  They do have a game tomorrow, but it's also like a scrimmage.

Tyler and Rett had baseball games today.  Rett's team lost their first game by 2 points; Rett played shortstop and did an excellent job; they lost their second game as well, but I don't know the point differential.

Tyler's team lost their first game also.  Tyler did not pitch that game and was scheduled to pitch this evening, but I didn't get word on that one and probably won't until tomorrow.

As you can see, our kids are very much into athletics, and that's good, especially since they're also good students.  They seem to be growing up quite well-rounded.  Way to go, Kids!

That's it for tonight!  Have a great weekend!

A mother once asked a clergyman when she should begin the education of her child,..."Madam," was the reply,..."From the first smile that gleams over an infant's cheek, your opportunity begins."         ...'Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.'

PS:  I forgot to mention the little bit of excitement we had.  While riding to the back to check on piles of brush that we had burned yesterday, we saw a snake.  It wasn't huge, but to my snake-fearing eyes, it was pretty big.  It actually stayed in place after I nearly rolled over it, and we returned to check it out.  Of course, Sid had to get "down and personal" with it, which scared me to death, but he did use a stick to touch it.  That little old snake opened up its mouth like it planned to have Sid for lunch. I took a couple of pictures, so I do have proof.  After enough prodding by Sid and his stick, the snake took off into the woods.  We took a ride to Bess' to tell her about it because she sometimes does her walking in that area.  THAT snake is probably long gone, but who knows how many of its family members are around.  Ooohhhhhhhh!!!!
