No electricity!

My Picture

Randi and I had a very slow day today--not much going on at all.  The only thing I did outside the Cottage was pick up the mail, and even that didn't involve very much; however, I did get the package Sandie sent to me with that beautiful lapghan.  It's even prettier than the picture, and I love the autumn colors she used.  I can't wait for a really cool night when I can use it while I lounge in my chair--or even on a night when I can't sleep in bed and end up in my lounge chair.  I will definitely be warm and cozy with that.  Thanks again, Sandie!

Sid had hoped to pick up some treated wood at the lumber yard today so he could begin making the markers for the new trees in the back orchard. When he went to the store, though, all of their computers were out and there was no electricity.  So, all of the equipment they have available to cut wood to size couldn't be used and, of course, the cash registers wouldn't work either.  Hopefully, he'll be able to get the wood tomorrow.

This electrical problem apparently hit most of the town because we wanted to get some fried fish at Sonny's and were told when we called to order that they had no electricity and couldn't cook anything at that time.  By then, it had been almost an hour since Sid had gone to the lumber yard, so who knows how long that problem would last.  We had to change our plans.

As I mentioned on Ash Wednesday, we Catholics are not supposed to eat meat on all Fridays of Lent, today being one of those.  I cooked a pot of white beans sans meat today, and we planned to get some fish to go along with that.  As I said above, without electricity, the restaurant couldn't cook the fish.  So, Sid decided to take a ride to Livonia, a small town not far from here to purchase fish at a place we really like.  The only reason we hadn't planned to go there was that it takes longer, and we just didn't feel like doing that.  Anyway, he and Randi took a ride out there while I finished preparing the "trimmings" for our meal--a pineapple/lettuce/mayo/cheese salad, the white beans, and rice.  By the time they got back, everything was ready and we were able to enjoy our meal.  The fish was excellent, by the way!

You might remember me mentioning my NanNan who has been very ill and in the nursing home in our old stomping grounds.  I received word today from her daughter that she isn't doing well at all.  The doctor recommends signing her up with Hospice, and I think they'll be doing that soon.  She has been suffering from lots of decubiti (bed sores) and the Hospice folks will be able to keep on top of that hopefully.  Please keep NanNan in your prayers, and remember her daughter and the rest of her family as they go through this very trying time.

Have a great evening and a wonderful weekend!

HEARTFELT BLESSING:  "Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow.  It only saps today of its joy."                      --Leo Buscaglia

NOTE:  Have you ever thought that if you worried more you might have solved your problems?  I don't think so!  Like I always remind Randi:  Only worry about those things you can do something about--and then, it's not really worrying--it's solving!  Let your worries go--you don't need them to have a wonderful life.
